Celeriac Mars produces large uniform roots from upright plants that hold themselves well in the soil. This variety is has good resistance to celery leaf spot. This celeriac produces creamy-white flesh that remains firm despite the large size of the roots. Celery is perfect for making homemade coleslaw, simply grate and enjoy the crunchy texture and subtle celery- like taste. this variety is ready to harvest from October to November but stores well and can also be left in the ground over winter if covered with a 15cm layer of straw for protection. Height:30cm (12”). Spread:40cm (16”).Sow seeds from February to April 3mm (1/8in) deep in a good seed compost. Germination takes 21-25 days at 20-25C (70-75F). Sealing in a polythene bag after sowing is helpful. Lower the temperature after germination.When large enough to handle, transplant the seedlings individually into 7cm (3in) pots or modules. Gradually acclimatise to outdoor conditions and plant out in June 30-35cm (12-15in) apart in full sun and well-drained soil.Keep well-watered especially in dry spells. Hoe regularly and remove any side shoots which may form. Harvest the roots in October-November.
